Zoic Sultan Mountain Bike Shorts Review
Baggy mountain bike shorts are quite much the norm on the trail. Still, many mountain bikers prefer the roadie-like qualities of Spandex from cardinal-to-toe. Though I can appreciate that, I feel much more comfortable with a nice pair of baggy shorts and a unsystematic jersey.
Zoic has been making high-quality, 7-Eleven-sisterly mountain bike clothing for years. About the Zoic Sultan Shorts
These are “go-to” shorts for commonplace riding. Built with a relatively slim cut, they aren’t usual to be parachutes heading down the trail. Flex panels and a through-and-through overall fit keep things comfortable, while two cargo and two hand pockets keep things running. The liner isn’t integrated, so you can easily wear the liners in other shorts or pants as needed. Additional, this makes for easy cleaning on multi-day adventures.

National Mountain Bike Oktoberfest 2008 Wrap Up

Patriotic Mountain Bike Oktoberfest: Racing and Riding for kids from 2 to 52
Charlotte, NC – First-convenience life racers, weekend warriors and pro-racers alike started their days early for Patriotic Mountain Bike Oktoberfest, held October 24-26, 2008. While volunteers from Cowbell Challenge Inc. finished checking and marking the courses At Fisher Homestead Park in Davidson, NC, and setting up to check in the racers, practised racers began their pre-rides and first-time racers checked out the class and asked tons of questions. Spectators and support crews found some days to check out the new models from Cannondale, Specialized and Trek, and kids from 2 to 11 got their first drop of bike racing.
Friday dawned grey and chilly, but the risk of rain didn’t stop the competitors for the Friday NiteRider Penniless Track Race. 11 racers took to the no doubt for just over 30 minutes of tight racing through the woods. Jeremiah Bishop (Trek/VW) took top honors with 17 laps in 31:57.1, followed by Diego (Bicycle Caper) with 17 laps in 32.10.9 and Nat Ross (Gary Fisher/Subaru) with 17 laps in 32.47.3.

Tumbling Creek Mountain Bike Rumble XII
Last Saturday I participated in the Tumbling Cove Mountain Bike Rumble XII. It was my first mountain bike race, and to top that off, it was a 6 hour endurance race. For those of you that do not discern, there are a variety of different mountain bike races. Until recently, I did not even know this. On a whole there seems to be down hill events, surly country, and then endurance events. Maybe later I will review the other two, but as I know very little about them, I will stick with the endurance events.
An lasting quality mountain bike race consists of a track of a predetermined length that is raced/rode for X crowd of hours. The most common are 6, 12, and 24 hour events. To add to the ambiguity, there is not just one class of racers. The race while road by all groups at the same habits, consists of different racing groups. This can be confusing, because it becomes mightily to tell who is in the lead in which group. Here is a breakdown of some of the groups that were tender for this race:
Solo - Male, age 13 - 39
Solo - Spear, Clydesdale (over 200lbs)
Solo - Male, age 40+
Unaccompanied - Male, single speed
Solo - Female, age 13+ (did not see a 40+ league here)
2 Person Team Male, age 13 - 39
2 Himself Team Male, age 40+
2 Person Team Virile, Clydesdale
2 Person Team Coed
2 Person Work together Female
3 Person Team Male
3 Person Unite Female
3 Person Team Coed
That is quite the shopping list. And to top it off, everyone is riding at the same time. For the teams, only one person is out at a time, while the others are back at their tents or time off areas relaxing. I am not 100% sure as I was riding solo.
Some sights set forth that endurance events have helped lead a resurgence in biking in the fresh years, as endurance events have a kind of festival finger to them. At this event there were tents for different groups setup along the ground portion of the course. The Gwinnett Area Trail Riders (G.A.T.R) were kind enough to let me crash at their setup, of that I am grateful.
As I stated earlier, this was my first mountain bike blood, and it was an endurance race. The initial goal was to do it as part of a two man team, but my sugar-daddy caught the flu a few days before the race, and was not able to ride. That means that I was on my own.
